Olympics: USOC Committed Only To 2024 Olympic Bid

LOS ANGELES, , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Jan, 2017 ) - The US Olympic Committee's support of a Los Angeles bid for the Summer Games apparently doesn't extend beyond 2024, according to documents made public on Wednesday.
At a meeting late last year it was suggested by International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach that the international body could break with tradition and choose two Olympic hosts when it gathers to vote in September in Lima on the 2024 host city.
Los Angeles is up against Paris and Budapest in the race for the 2024 Games. If one of those cities gets the nod, the idea of awarding Los Angeles the 2028 Games instead wouldn't fly. "The USOC board does not foresee pursuing any bid other than for the 2024 Games," minutes released from a USOC board meeting in December said.
According to the minutes, discussion of the matter led to "general agreement that the LA 2024 bid is specifically configured and calculated for 2024 rather than 2028 activation". The comments appear to indicate that the USOC is not interested in pursuing a bid for any upcoming Winter Games after Salt Lake City, Utah, Lake Placid, New York, and Reno, Nevada, showed interest.
Los Angeles, which has already organized the Summer Games in 1932 and 1984, was put forward by the USOC as a potential 2024 host after an original bid by Boston foundered. The southern California group trying to the bring the Games to Los Angeles said this week that the Olympics would pump $11 billion into the local economy.
