She said: We have to motivate our students in situations where one is physically capable of performing the task but is uncertain about her capabilities, which in many cases is a problem that keeps female students from chosen sports activity.
The reasons one gives for participating or not participating in sport have received extensive attention over the past few years, she said, adding understanding why some individual were reluctant to participation in sport was much vital to bring our students towards the sports fields.
Studies around the world have shown that young people are not that much physically active as they need to be she said adding regular physical activity is vital for good physical and mental health.
It helps improve your overall health and fitness, maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk for many chronic diseases and promote good mental health.
As a firm believer students have to adopt healthy sports activities for their own development both mentally and physically and to help them do this we need to reassess our role as higher education providers, she said.
We should not just provide the opportunities for students to achieve good academic results but actively promote the benefits of a wider curriculum to students by involving them in healthy sports activities and that is why I directed the Directorate of Sports to have sports activities over the year.
After all, university should see a transformative experience through which students can prepare themselves to succeed in the many and varied roles they will undertake in future life, she remarked.

The curriculum enables students to develop their subject knowledge, academic literacy and a range of complementary capabilities besides knowhow about the importance of sports in routine life. Going to university is no longer seen as a rite of passage by this generation it should be a well-considered investment.
