Football: Bulgarian champions Ludogorets hire Dimitrov

SOFIA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Aug, 2017 ) - Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad appointed former national coach Dimitar Dimitrov as their new head coach, the club announced on Monday.

The 58-year-old succeeds Georgi Dermendzhiev, 62, who had led Ludogorets to three Bulgarian league titles in a row from 2015 to 2017, but threw in the towel last week after a bitter defeat in the Bulgarian Supercup.

Dimitrov was Bulgaria's national coach in 1998-99 and guided both Litex Lovech and Levski Sofia to the Bulgarian League title. He moved abroad in 2004 to coach teams in Saudi Arabia, Russia and, most recently, Kazakhstan.

Ludogorets, who are currently third in the Bulgarian league table, failed to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League after a 3-1 defeat against Israelis Hapoel Beer-Sheva in early August. They face Lithuania's Suduva in a Europa League play-off on Thursday.
