New Zealand were 229 for four, leading England by 171 runs, at stumps on a rain-hit day two of the first Test in Auckland on Friday.

Only 23.1 overs were possible with New Zealand adding 54 runs to their overnight 175 for the loss of one wicket.

Kane Williamson went for 102, after reaching a New Zealand-record 18th century. Henry Nicholls was not out 49 with BJ Watling on 17, while for England, James Anderson has three for 53.
