First Cycling Academy Of Pakistan Inaugurated In Qayyum Stadium Complex

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 09th Feb, 2018 ) :The most awaited first cycling academy of Pakistan launched in the premises of the historical Qayyum Sports Complex with the collaboration of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cycling Association and Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here on Friday.
Director General Sports KP Junaid Khan was the chief guest on this occasion and formally inaugurated the Cycling Academy, first in Pakistan. President KP Cycling Association Nisar Ahmad, Director Development Munir Abbas, Director Youth Aziz Ullah, international cyclist Murad Ali, Basit Khan, and large number of spectators were also present.
The Cycling Academy was established with the aim to enlist and ensure modern techniques of the cycling to the upcoming cyclists, President KP Cycling Association Nisar Ahmad said in his welcome address said soon after inauguration.
Nisar Ahmad said that services of a qualified psychiatrist will also be hired besides organizing classes of cycling techniques in session to session wise. He lauded the generous support extended by Director General Sports Junaid Khan who showed indeed their affection for the promotion of sports in general and cycling in particular in the province.
Such like training academy is a dream come true as it would play vital role in the promotion of cycling in the region and we are hopeful enough that the young and promising riders will have a chance of polishing their skills in better manner under the supervision of qualified coaches, Nisar Ahmad said.
Nisar Ahmad, a qualified Technical Official of the International Cycling Union who also represented Pakistan in Tour de France, Tour de Qater, Tour of Janeiro (Italy) and World Cycling Championship in Bergen (Norway) underline the importance of such like academies in other sports as well so that the basic skills could be polished in an appropriate manner.
He said besides improving cycling handling techniques, racing skills, cycle fitness, bike, helmet, drink, snack and suitable clothing are things need proper awareness. This is part of the high performance program, and following the enthusiasm for this program and appetite for youth racing, it became evident there was a further need for a youth development program as well, he added.
Academy was aimed aim of educating and developing young cyclists so they can take the first steps on the Cycling pathway. It aims to attract, retain and develop youth cyclists by creating an environment that promotes excellence and develops talent by providing cyclists with a platform to reach their full potential, he said.
Speaking on this occasion, Junaid Khan said that the aim and objective of the academy is to provide facilities of best techniques. He expressed the hope with the forming of the academy more talent would come up.
The academy is about working to become a better rider in a fun and progressive environment, he said, adding a good team would help the young cyclists understanding the rules of the trail or road and how to keep yourself and others safe.
He also assured full support to the academy and said that more such academies would be established in other games as well so that games could be promoted at grassroots level. Earlier, DG Sports KP Junaid Khan formally inaugurated the academy by cutting the tape. He also announced Rs. 0.1 million for the academy and promised to give more equipment for the academy besides cycling.
