Imran Khan congratulates Justice (r) Nasir-ul-Mulk for being appointed Interim PM

PTI happy over Nasir-ul-Mulk’s appointment as Caretaker PM

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 28th May, 2018) The name of caretaker prime minister has finally been announced today.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Oppositon Leader Khurshid Shah have reached a consensus upon the name of Justice (r) Nasir-ul-Mulk to serve as interim prime minister.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also seems happy over the name of Mulk.

In his tweet following the announcement, PTI chairman Imran Khan said, “Want to congratulate Justice (r) Nasir ul Mulk on being appointed Caretaker PM.”

This is despite Mulk’s judgment as the head of the judicial commission formed over 2013 election rigging that “despite massive rigging, elections were largely fair as”.

PTI leader Imran Ismail also extended congratulations to Justice (r) Mulk for being appointed as the interim prime minister.

“Justice Rtd. Nasir ul Mulk is a good name for caretaker PM. Congratulations,” Ismail said in his tweet.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Monday, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that this is an important day in the democratic journey of the country. The process of consultation was underway for six weeks and the decision was not easy.

Announcing the name, Oppositon Leader Khurshid Shah said that all the Names were on merit and there were no doubts in their credibility.

"The name we have decided is very respectable and that is of Justice (r) Nasir-ul-Mulk," he announced.

The prime minister and the opposition leader held their 6th meeting today in Islamabad to decide about the caretaker prime minister.

The incumbent government will complete its term on May 31. Following this, a caretaker set-up will take place which will be responsible to hold the next general elections.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced holding general elections on July 25.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz had suggested three names to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for caretaker prime minister. These included Justice (r) Nasir-ul-Mulk, Justice (r) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and former State Bank governor Ishrat Hussain.

The names suggested by PTI included Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and Ishrat Hussain while the PPP had suggested the names of Jalil Abbas Jilani and Zaka Ashraf for caretaker prime minister.

Justice (r) Nasir-ul-Mulk had served as the 22nd Chief Justice of Pakistan. He was nominated as the chief justice by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in 2014. He also served as the acting Chief Election Commissioner from November 30, 2013 to July 6, 2014.
