UNODC to hold conference on 'Trafficking in Persons, Smuggling of Migrants' Tuesday

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) will hold Regional Conference on "Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants" from October 24-25 to foster greater national and international inter-agency cooperation

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Oct, 2017 ) :The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) will hold Regional Conference on "Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants" from October 24-25 to foster greater national and international inter-agency cooperation.

The country office is currently supporting the government through its broad-based Pakistan Country Programme (2016-2019) and in line with this effort, UNODC Country Office Pakistan has already delivered series of technical assistance to mandated law enforcement agencies.

As per details here on Monday, this two-day event is a follow-up to previous regional conference, organized to bring together relevant countries to discuss advancement of recommendations that were developed during regional conference held in Karachi and to exchange views on emerging trends and patterns of irregular migration in region.

In this conference, progress made on agreed recommendations of previous conferences and also way forward by all participating countries and organizations for future action will be discussed. The experts from participant countries, which begins Tuesday, will share their experiences and encourage establishment of an effective coordination and cooperation mechanism.

The countries including Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Italy, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iraq and United Arab Emirates (UAE) in addition to leading international organizations have been invited to attend the conference.
