Central General Council meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-N held at Convention Center Islamabad, on Tuesdday in which Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was elected unopposed President of the PML-N.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Mar, 2018 ) :Central General Council meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-N held at Convention Center Islamabad, on Tuesdday in which Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was elected unopposed President of the PML-N.

According to a DGPR handout here, PML-N Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider, PML-N Chairman Senator Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Federal Ministers, Senior PML-N Leaders, members of executive committee as well as a large number of party workers attended the meeting.

After being elected as PML-N president, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his address said that it was a matter of great honour that after being elected as acting party president by the central working committee of PML-N last week, he had now been formally elected as the PML-N president by general council of the party.

He said, "This moment is an important but difficult phase of my life and you can well judge that I have been asked to perform duties on the post of a revered personality, under the compulsion of the situation, to whom I have always looked for guidance and patronage in my whole political career spanning more than thirty years.

I fully understand it and I can say it frankly, without any fear or contradiction, that I as well as any other party worker can never think of replacing Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was our leader yesterday; he remains to be our leader today and will continue to be our leader in the coming days.

I honestly believe that it is luck of, not only the PML-N, but that of Pakistan and the people as well that they have been bestowed a leader like him. I believe that Nawaz Sharif is a politician and a leader who can be declared as the political inheritor of proud legacy of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah." He further said that Muhammad Nawaz Sharif disdainfully rejected a five billion Dollars U.S.

aid proposal and prioritized national interest. He made Pakistan an atomic power and made the country's defence impregnable by atomic explosions, and also developed motorways and introduced packages worth billions of rupees for farmers, the CM said and added that he (Nawaz Sharif) also rid the country of load-shedding and terrorism through invaluable sacrifices and cooperation of armed forces of Pakistan.

These were the important steps, due to which, the future historians would place Nawaz Sharif as the most seasoned and respected leader from every respect after the founding fathers of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif said and added that provision of subsidized fertilizers to the farmers, along with interest-free loans, and composite national development were such achievements of Nawaz Sharif which would always remain alive in the annals of history.

He said that whenever development of other provinces was discussed, then the pitiable situation in KPK saddened them. A great treachery and fraud had been made with the people of KPK in the name of change, he said and added that was why; every person in KPK was forced to narrate the couplet: Rukh-e-Roshan Ka Roshan Aik Pehlo Bhi Nahin Nikla Jisay Hum Chand Samajhay Thay Woh Jugnu Bhi Nahin Nikla.

Shehbaz Sharif said the marvelous role played by non-Muslim brethren in the establishment and development of Pakistan needed no explanation. "We are fully proud of the role of religious minorities played in the development of the country.

It is sanguine that minority communities are wholly contributing in the process of national reconstruction and this unbeatable support will always be continued," he added.

He said, "We are of the considered opinion that whatever the situation may be and how many political jugglers are united, both Zardari and Niazi are not better than us." The Chief Minister said that no other honour was revered than the fact that a leader of the stature of Nawaz Sharif had chosen him for this coveted responsibility.

"After being elected as acting president, I had said that my mind and soul are asking this question that how anybody can replace Nawaz Sharif? How the love and affection be enjoyed by any other body which the people have always showered on Nawaz Sharif? I honestly believe that it is not an easy task to fulfill the daunting task.

Having full understanding of seriousness of this challenge, I have full trust and confidence in the blessings of Allah Almighty that I have the support of my venerated Quaid as well as the people of Pakistan.

I have served my party as well as the country for around thirty years as the younger brother and trusted lieutenant of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. This training and hard work is my lifelong asset and I assure that I shall leave no stone unturned to fulfill my obligations at the new post," he said.

Shehbaz Sharif thanked Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, PML-N leaders and political colleagues for selecting him for this post of public service. "I will like to pay tributes to the PML-N workers from across the country who is a proud asset of the party and they have given proof of their loyalty by rendering sacrifices at every difficult time and situation.

I believe that this day is not meant for giving and receiving congratulations. Today we are all heart-broken. The world knows that injustice has been done with our leader and he has been made a target of injustice.

I believe from the core of my heart that Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and crores of people will get justice and the day will come when this injustice will be redressed," he added. He said the PML-N was the custodian of ideology of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

He said, "Let's make a sovereign pledge that we shall burn the midnight oil to overcome the situation, resulting due to societal divide, between the poor and the rich and economic imbalances in the society.

Today, there is a bigger challenge before us and we have to overcome all those impediments, with our practical deeds, that could arise in the way of political process. We have to play our role to ensure continuity of the development process.

We have to ensure it that destination of the political process should result in shape of free, fare and impartial elections in the country." He also prayed to Allah Almighty to help him to fulfill the requirements of the new responsibility.

Addressing the meeting, PML-N Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that his party had eradicated terrorism and energy crisis and spread a network of motorways, flyovers and roads in the country. He said the work done by Punjab Chief Minister during the last ten years, for the development and prosperity of the province, had no resemblance in the 70 years history of the country.

One could easily judge by monitoring the situation in different provinces that which of the provinces had progressed as Shehbaz Sharif played an exemplary role in the development of Punjab province, concluded Nawaz Sharif.
