LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Sep, 2017 ) : Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan on Tuesday said that he was of the opinion that Sharif family should not appear before the National Accountibility Bureau (NAB) as he had doubts that the decision had already been taken in the legal process.
Speaking during Meet the Press by Punjab Assembly Press Gallery at the assembly cafeteria here, he said he saw eye to eye with Maryam Nawaz Sharif on the issue, adding that the final decision would be taken in consulattion with the legal advisors of the Sharifs.
To a question regarding a larger bench on panama case verdict, Rana Sanaullah said it was PML-N's legal and constitutional standpoint that a political leader elected by 15 million voters and 3-times prime minister of the country must be given right of appeal and amendment in the law must be made to give Nawaz Sharif relief for his services to strengthen the country economically, politically and making it a nuclear power.
To another query, he said the PML-N believed in the sanctity of the institutions of the country, adding that corruption of one individual did not make the whole institution corrupt. He said the sacrifices of the armed forces for the country were commendable.
About the kidnapping of political workers in NA 120 by-polls, the Punjab Law Minister said the action was not committed by the provincial institutions or the agencies. He said people had been kidnapped in the past as well and he was assured that no provincial agency was involved.
Rana Sanaullah Khan said that offering bribe to the apex court was contempt of court, adding if somebody had done so or reported it falsely must be punished under the law of the land. He said it was unlawful to use the name of the apex court for political gains by a political party.
About NA-120 by-polls, he said the voter turnout in the election was the highest so far in the history of the country and the credit must go to Maryam Nawaz Sharif who ran a disciplined campaign for the elction of her mother Begum Kalsoom Nawaz.
He dispelled the impression that government resources were used in the by-polls campaign, adding that she effectively conveyed the message of Nawaz Sharif in her election speeches which mobilized the masses and they turned out in large numbers to cast their vote for Kalsoom Nawaz.
He said some forty odd candidates against PML-N could bag mere 11000 votes, adding that all opposing candidates could not compete with PML-N candidate with their tally of votes in the September 17 by-polls.
The Provincial Law Minister said it was equal responsibility of the treasury benches as well as the opposition to maintain quorum but the opposition looked for some excuse to escape the proceedings and disprupt the agenda.
He regretted the fact that the opposition was against the smooth functioning of the august house and wanted to hamper the proceedings by all means, adding that the Private Members Day was an opportunity for the opposition benches to put the treasury benches to test and expose the government and never, in the past, quorum had been pointed out by the opposition on the Private Members Day.
He said Supreme Court of Pakistan was a venerated institution and its respect demanded implementation of its decisions in letter and spirit, adding that former Premier Muhammad Nawaz Sharif extended the fullest respect to the apex court by accepting its verdict in the Panama case.
The Law Minister said the PML-N reserved the right to fair comment on the verdict of the apex court and it had been done in the past in quite a many instances. MPA Asif Bajwa and President Press Gallery Zaheer Shahzad were also present during the Meet the Press.
