SC Issues Arrest Warrant For Hussain Haqqani In Memogate Case

The Supreme Court Thursday issued an arrest warrant for former ambassador to the United States Hussain Haqqani in the Memogate case
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Feb, 2018 ) :The Supreme Court Thursday issued an arrest warrant for former ambassador to the United States Hussain Haqqani in the Memogate case. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case.
During the course of proceedings, Additional Attorney General (AAG) Waqar Rana submitted a report suggesting ways to bring Hussain Haqqani back to Pakistan. Rana Waqar told the bench that they had spoken to officials in the foreign affairs ministry, the interior ministry and the FIA chief regarding the matter.
He said a committee had been constituted to take up the issue with the relevant authorities in the United States. The AAG told the bench that according to the standard operating procedure, the FIA needed an arrest warrant issued by the court.
In response, the apex court issued an arrest warrant for Haqqani. Director General of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Bashir Memon said process regarding the issuance of a red warrant had been initiated. A request had also been sent to Interpol regarding the issuance of a red warrant, he added.
