SC extends stay on proposed housing scheme on NARC land till next hearing

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st july,2016) : The Supreme Court on Thursday extended stay order against converting the 1,395 acre of land of National Agricultural Research Council (NARC) into a housing society till next hearing of the case. The said land located in the area of Chak Shahzad was given to National Agriculture Research Council (NARC) on a 30-year lease for agriculture research in 1975.

Since the lease period expired in 2005, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) intends to convert the land into a housing society. The division bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Tariq Pervaiz heard the suo-moto notice case.

During the course of proceedings, the counsel for CDA aprised the court that the Authority was awaiting government's decision regarding housing scheme on the said land. He said that the Authority had already referred its suggestions to Prime Minister Secretariate.

Justice Tariq Pervaiz observed that the parliamentary committee appreciated the research work done by the NARC in the field of agri sector. Later, hearing of the case was adjourned to a date in office.
