ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2018 ) :The Supreme Court Monday adjourned hearing of the appeal filed by former foreign minister Khawaja Asif against his disqualification by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) under Article 62(1)(f) for holding a United Arab Emirates Iqama (work permit) till May 31.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Umer Atta Bandiyal and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah heard the appeal challenging the IHC verdict. During the course of proceedings, Muneer A Malik, counsel of Khawaja Asif, argued before the court that the allegation of concealing a Dubai bank account was not part of the original petition filed against his client.
Khawaja Asif's disqualification under Article 62(1)(f) was beyond his understanding, he added. Justice Faisal Arab observed that Khawaja Asif had not mentioned his salary in his nomination papers.
Muneer A Malik said the salary was mentioned in foreign income. He pleaded with the top court to strike down the IHC verdict and the notification of Election Commission of Pakistan, and restore his client's membership of the National Assembly. The bench adjourned the case till May 31.
