Policy dialogue for action on early childhood care, education

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Feb, 2017 ) : School Education Department (SED), Sindh in collaboration with Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) organized policy dialogue for "Action on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)" at Reform Support Unit's auditorium here on Monday.

The panelists attempted to assess the progress of SED in attaining holistic child development through various departmental interventions, said a statement. The panelists include Additional Secretary Health, Dr.

Jamaluddin Jalalani, Head of Curriculum Wing; Dr. Fouzia Khan, Director NDIE Audrey Jumma and CEO,ITA Baela Raza. The discussion was moderated by Chief Program Manager, Reform Support Unit Faisal Ahmed Uqaili.

Welcoming the audience, Faisal Ahmed Uqaili said that this discussion will contribute constructively to successful implementation of the policy. Dr Jamaluddin emphasized on the prevention side and suggested education department can facilitate health department in administrating vaccination and other similar programs at school level.

Further, he also talked about the training of doctors on raising awareness about different health issues among school children. Regarding ECE curriculum, Dr.Fouzia Khan said that this curriculum just does not focus on students only but also envisages a role of parents in promoting Early Childhood Care.

Regarding fulfilling the gap of ECCE teachers, Ms. Audrey said that we need to map the teachers of Sindh, as per their qualification, certification for ECE. The event was attended by representatives of Teachers' Resource Centre, AKU-IED, Plan International, World Bank, Idarah-e-Taleem O Aagahi, Foundation Open Society, NDIE, Bureau of Curriculum, AKU-HDP, UNICEF, Special Education Department, STEDA, PITE,CMP-IRD, Save the Children and Reform Support Unit.
