Pak' Efforts To Protect Senior Citizen's Rights Highlighted

Federal Minister for Human Rights, Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar Thursday said Pakistan was playing vital role in realizing the dream of a world where human rights of senior citizens were fully protected
ISLAMABAD, Sept 21 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Sep, 2017 ) : Federal Minister for Human Rights, Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar Thursday said Pakistan was playing vital role in realizing the dream of a world where human rights of senior citizens were fully protected.
He was speaking during second ASEM Conference on Global Ageing and Human Rights of Older Persons, organized from September 19-21 in Seoul, Republic of Korea by National Human Rights Commission of Korea.
Addressing on the occasion, the federal minister said "Pakistan has high value, respect and dignity for senior citizens". "The provisions of Constitution of Pakistan includes guiding principle for the promotion and protection of senior citizens and their basic fundamental rights, equality, protection, principles of non-discrimination", he said.
He emphasized that sharing information on policies to respond to population ageing and cooperation of International Community for Human Rights of senior citizens would benefit in larger perspective, according to a message received here.
Mumtaz Tarar discussed in detail the problems, remedies, resolutions, strategies, programmes and economic needs of older persons. He briefed the audience on the performance of Federal and Provincial Governments' efforts, packages, educational measures, security measures, legislation and different programs to address the needs of senior citizens.
He mentioned that the measures taken by the government demonstrated the strong commitment to protect, promote and empower older persons and the commitments under the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing and Sustainable Development Goals.
He thanked Leenak-Yon, Prime Minister of the Republic Korea for his personal commitment and patronage of this very important subject. He expressed the delightful feelings on the invitation by the Government of the Republic of Korea and Secretariat of the Asia-Europe Meeting.
