ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Apr, 2018 ) :The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Thursday observed that there was no room for martial law in the Constitution and he would be the first one to fight if any attempt was made in that regard.
If he was unable to foil any bid for imposition of martial law in the country, he would go to home instead of endorsing it, the chief justice said while addressing a ceremony arranged by the Supreme Court Bar Association here to mark the renaming of its auditorium after late Asma Jahangir.
He said only democracy would rule the country and it was his promise to the nation that no martial law or judicial martial law would be imposed.
He said the talk about a judicial martial law was laughable.
"Why would we put ourselves into any judicial martial law or judicial takeover? This rumour is being spread by a design or plan," he added. The chief justice said the general election would be held in time as there was no room of delay in the Constitution to that effect.
He paid tribute to human rights activist and noted lawyer Asma Jahangir, who passed away earlier this year, saying that she had the passion to work for the poor and down-trodden people of society.
