No adjournment motion in Senate admitted for discussion

Three adjournment motions appearing on `Orders of the Day' on Tuesday in Senate were not admitted for discussion by the Chairman Senate for being in contravention with rules

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Dec, 2017 ) :Three adjournment motions appearing on `Orders of the Day' on Tuesday in Senate were not admitted for discussion by the Chairman Senate for being in contravention with rules.

The first adjournment motion was sponsored by Senator Mohsin Aziz which was about South Asia Economic Focus (SAEF) report of the World Bank according to which Pakistan's gross external financing needs including foreign portfolio investments were equal to 9 % of GDP which reflected the failure of the Government to initiate immediate and radical policy reforms.

The Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani asked him to withdraw it and submit a motion under Rule 218 to discuss the issue to which the mover agreed. Similarly, another adjournment motion was also withdrawn by Senator Sherry Rehman which was about non-implementation of Climate Change Policy of 2012 due to which Pakistan is incurring losses of up to 4 billion USD annually.

The mover also agreed to bring a motion under Rule 218 on it. The third adjournment motion was also withdrawn by Senator Mukhtiar Ahmed Dhamrah Aajiz who agreed with the Chair to bring Calling Attention Notice on the issue.

It was regarding the suspension of the activities of the 9th NFC commission due to absence of the Finance Minister in the country which might result into announcement of budget for the Financial Year 2018-19 without NFC Award.

The House passed a motion under Rule 194 (1) to grant thirty working days to Senate Standing Committee on Interior for presentation of its report on the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill, 2017. Another motion to extend the presentation period of report of Special Committee for sixty working days to examine overall working of sports Federation in Pakistan was also passed by the House.
