Naveed, Noor Zaman, Hamza, Laiba, Humam Win National Junior Squash Championship Titles

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Jul, 2017 ) : Naveed Rehman of Sindh, Noor Zaman, Hamza, Laiba, Humam Ahmad of PAF secured victories in their respective categories of the National Junior Age Group Boys and Girls Squash Championship played here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Saturday.
Secretary IT and Transport, Govt of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Daud Khan was the chief guest on this occasion. Former World Champion Qamar Zaman, Member Executive Committee Sher Bahadar, Nazim Nawa Khali Sajjad Khan and large number of spectatorts witnessed the thrilling finals of the Under-17, Under-15, Under-13, Under-11 and Girls Under-15.
The Championship carried a prime money of Rs. 0.2 million with more than 80 boys and girls took part. In the Under 17 final promising Naveed Rehman of Sindh defeated Farhan Hashmi of Punjab in a thrilling five sets battle lasted for 49 minutes.
Naveed Rehman secured victory in the first set by 11-9 but failed to click in the second won by Farhan Hashmi of Punjab at 8-11. Again Naveed Rehman won the set by 11-9 but failed to win the fourth set won by Farhan Hashmi at 4-11.
It was the fifth set when Naveed Rehman recorded thumping victory at 12-10. The set was tied at 6-6, 7-7 and 10-10. In the Under-15 Noor Zaman of PAF defeated Ali Sher of PAF in another thrilling match by 3-1, the score was 8-11, 11-6, 11-7 and 11-7.
Noor fully dominated the proceedings and did not give much time to Ali Sher to strike back. Noor has better command over his strong forehands and backhands by putting Ali Sher in the back of the court.
In the Under-11 Humam Ahmad of PAF secured victory against Abdullah Nawaz of PAF in straight sets, the score was 11-7, 11-6 and 11-9. Humam Ahmad, the current Pakistan No. 1, did not give much time to his rival Abdullah Nawaz to strike back.
Humam, who recently got runners-up position in National Junior event held in Lahore, played well and hit some forceful smashes. In the Girls Laiba Ijaz recorded victory against Nimra Aqeel in the final in straight sets, the score was 11-6, 11-7 and 11-8.
Laiba did not give much time and most of the time dominated the match. Laiba Ijaz earlier defeated Maria in the semi-final by 3-0, the score was 11-8, 11-6 and 11-5 while Nimra Aqeel beat Hira by 3-0, the score was 11-8, 11-7 and 11-6.
At the end, the chief guest gave away trophies and cash prizes to the winners and runners-up. He also lauded the efforts of the KP Squash Association for holding various events on regular basis.
Muhammad Daud Khan, who is also Senior Vice President of KP Squash Association, assured his full support to the players. Qamar Zaman thanked Muhammad Daud Khan for extending his support. APP/ijz/sho
