National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Multan has secured 10-day physical remand of a DSP on Friday, a day after he was arrested from Lahore in an embezzlement case of Vehari district police
MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Aug, 2017 ) : National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Multan has secured 10-day physical remand of a DSP on Friday, a day after he was arrested from Lahore in an embezzlement case of Vehari district police.
Accused DSP Vehari Qadeer Anwar was arrested in a case already under investigations by NAB Multan that also involves former DPOs, DSPs, District Accounts Officer and others. They were actively involved in embezzlement of funds from year 2008 to 2013 and inquiry unfolded the embezzled amounts up to Rs 1200 million, NAB Multan spokesman said.
The DSP was produced before the NAB court Friday and the court allowed his 10-day physical remand with direction to produce him again on August 21. Additional IG Punjab had lodged complaint regarding embezzlement of funds by officers and officials of DPO Office and District Account Office Vehari.
The accused persons embezzled huge funds through fake bills of pay and allowances, arrears of pay, POL (fuel and oil), electricity bills, telephone, rent bills, procurement, and bogus computer system based transfer entries.
Initially, the inquiry was authorized in August last year which was later upgraded to investigation and bifurcated into two separate cases due to embezzlement of huge amounts of over Rs 1200 million.
It transpired during inquiry that District Police Officers, posted during 2008 to 2013, used to withdraw huge funds through fake documents in violation of rules. The office of AIG Finance Punjab also failed to monitor or maintain check and balances, rather overlooked frequent budget reappropriations and expenditures without justifications or verifications.
The bills were successively passed merely on the basis of number of sanctioned/held posts and all illegal payments during this period were made in the name of DDO (Drawing and Disbursing Officers) instead of agency/vendor/officers, NAB Multan spokesman said.
