NA-4 Bye-poll: ECP Asks Candidates To Follow Law Provisions

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Oct, 2017 ) :The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has asked the political parties and the candidates for NA-4 Peshawar-IV bye-election to follow the provisions of law and exercise self-restraint for holding the polling in an orderly and peaceful manner on October 26.
According to an ECP statement, the Commission had drawn attention of contesting candidates for the NA-4 bye-election to Section 84 of the Representation of the People Act, 1976, which provides that no person will convene, hold or attend any public meeting and no person will promote or join any procession within the area of the constituency during a period of 48 hours ending at midnight following the conclusion of the poll for an election in that constituency.
It said," Any person who contravenes these provisions of law will be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term, which may extend to six months or with fine, which may extend to Rs 1,000 or with both." The ECP said the campaign for NA-4 bye-election would come to an end with effect from the midnight falling between October 24 and 25.
