MCI in its meeting discusses business rule, water situation

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Nov, 2017 ) :17th Meeting of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has discussed the agenda in detail about the business Rules of MCI, water supply situation and performance of Environment Wing.

The meeting was held here at Pak-China Friendship Centre. The meeting was presided by the Deputy Mayor MCI, Chaudhry Riffat Javed. Chief Officer MCI, Asad Mehboob Kiyani apprised the meeting that Rules of Business have already been approved by the authorized authority, which is under the printing process.

He further informed that printed copies of the Rules of Business would be provided to the members in the house. He also informed the house about these Rules of Business in detail. The meeting was informed about the current scenario of supply of water to the residents of Islamabad as per daily water supply schedule through water supply line as well as water tankers.

The meeting was further informed that funds amounting to Rs. 2.5 million for the repair and maintenance of water tankers have been released by the Finance Wing, however; the members of the house urged for release of Rs.

10.00 million already approved by the Mayor of Islamabad as the residents of the Capital City can face acute shortage of water during the ongoing winter season, which is not less than a challenge.

The house was informed that due to less ratio of rain this year, 10 million gallon of water against the total supply from Simly Dam has been reduced to ensure storage of water in the dam till the expected spring rains.

The house was also informed that due to less rain, the underground water table gone deep due to which supply of water from the tube wells is very difficult. However, Chief Officer further informed the house that government has approved the plan of supply of water from Ghazi Barotha.

He informed the house that work on initial plan and preparation of PC-I is in progress. Under the plan, 100 million gallon of water would be supplied to Islamabad on daily basis from Ghazi Barotha, which would meet the water requirements of Islamabad.

The house discussed the difficulties for provision of gas and electricity connections to the residents and demanded for lifting of ban. The house approved the resolution for change in rules Zone-I and IV, powers of union councils, operation against the illegal construction activities and encroachments and provision of development funds to MCI.
