Lawyers, Politicians In KP Flay Opposition Demand Of PM Resignation

PESHAWAR (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Apr, 2017 ) : The politicians and lawyers of Khyber Pakthunkhwa here Friday strongly flayed the demand of opposition parties regarding resignation of the Prime Minister following the detailed judgment of Supreme Court in a Panama Papers case and termed it as "irrational and unjustified".

Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) and PMLN Leader, Saleh Muhammad told APP on Friday that judgment of Supreme Court was very clear and comprehensive and there was no reason for resignation of the Prime Minister after it.

He said Supreme Court had passed a bold and right decision by ordering Joint Investigation Team (JIT) as making probe in such like case was the mandate of NAB, FIA, FBR and other law enforcement, adding JIT was the best forum to investigate the issue.

The PMLN leader said Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, Pakistan Awami League and Jamaat-i-Islami had failed to prove their allegations against the Sharif family. The opposition after complete failure on judicial front, he said, was now making an irrational demand of PM resignation that was unjustified, adding PM's resignation demand was tantamount of not accepting the verdict of Supreme Court.

The PMLN leader said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had decided not to seek any immunity or to question maintainability or seek shelter behind any technicalities in the Panama papers case and faced the trial with courage and steadfastness.

Saleh said all prayers including disqualification of the Prime Minister made by Imran Khan and others had been turned down by the court and therefore, he (Imran Khan) should tender apology from the nation for wasting time of the court and people.

"The attempt of PTI Chairman Imran Khan to get instant justice i.e disqualification of Prime Minister from Supreme Court had failed as the matter was referred to Joint Investigation Team (JIT) for more investigation," he said.

"Imran Khan had wasted time of general public in sits in and agitation besides of the court in Panama papers and had he accepted the offer of PM regarding formation of an Enquiry Commission the case would have been resolved by no", he explained.

He said Maryam Nawaz, who was one of the main targets of opposition parties/petitioners has also been cleared along with her husband Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar from further probe in the case.

The MPA said no justification was left to make hue and cry on Panama papers anymore and advised the opposition parties to prepare for the next general elections 2018.

Saleh expressed the hope that all parties would cooperate with JIT to take the case into its logical end. Alamzaib Khan, a senior lawyer and constitutional expert said there was no justification of demanding resignation from the Prime Minister after the Supreme Court's historic verdict in Panama papers.

Alamzaib said so far nothing has been proved against the Prime Minister in Panama papers case and therefore demand of resignation from him was totally unjustified. "Majority of judges has ordered formation of JIT for investigation, which means the Apex Court wanted complete inquiry in the case so that no injustice should be made with anyone", adding formation of a joint investigation team was a victory for the PML-N's stand.

Alamzaib, who is also PMLN Lawyers Wing President KP said PM Nawaz Sharif has emerged victorious and more powerful after the judgment and will continue to works for progress and prosperity of people.

Senior constitutional expert and former President Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA), Abdul Latif Afridi said the Apex Court has delivered a right decision by ordering Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to make detail investigation of the issue.

He said making investigation in such like cases was the mandate of NAB, FIA, FBR and other law enforcement, adding JIT was the best forum to investigate the issue. He said Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, Pakistan Awami League and Jamaat-i-Islami had failed to prove their allegations against the Sharif family.

Afridi said PM Nawaz Sharif has emerged more powerful than before. The former PHCBA President said decision by majority judges was accepted in the law and in Panama papers case it will be valid.

Afridi said solid and concrete evidence was required to decide a case as court can't pass a judgment on mere speculations and newspapers� cuttings. Afridi said there was no justification with political parties and opposition to make hue and cry on Panama papers now and urged them to cooperate with JIT for quick disposal of the case.
