Homage Paid To Afzal Guru, Maqbool Butt

ISLAMABAD, Feb 9 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 09th Feb, 2017 ) : Pro-freedom leaders and organizations in Indian occupied Kashmir have paid glowing tributes to prominent martyred liberation leaders, Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Butt, on their martyrdom anniversaries and said that their sacrifices for the just and rightful struggle were remarkable and unforgettable.
According to KMS, Muhammad Afzal Guru was hanged in New Delhi's Tihar jail on February 9 in 2013 while Muhammad Maqbool Butt was executed in the same jail on February 11, 1984 for their role in the liberation struggle.
Hurriyet forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar said that tens of thousands of Kashmiris had offered sacrifices of their lives for their right to self- determination but the martyrdom of Afzal Guru and Maqbool Butt were unique, exceptional and matchless as these sacrifices had given a new lease of life to Kashmir's resistance struggle.
The spokesman of Awami Action Committee (AAC) in a statement termed the sacrifices of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru as priceless assets of the ongoing resistance movement. He said that settlement of the lingering Kashmir dispute was imperative for ensuring durable peace and stability in the South Asian region.
APHC leader, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, in a statement in Srinagar said that both the martyrs were the icons of Kashmir freedom movement and would always be remembered as heroes of the suppressed Kashmiris. He said that sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs would not be allowed to go waste.
