Helping rural women to generate earnings through e-commerce

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th july,2016) : The collaboration between Benazir Income Support Programme and online shopping portal - Cheezmall has entered into its pilot phase in seven districts of the country and is benefiting the poor component of society. The seven districts include one in each province and territory which started from Hunza, Gilgit Baltistatan (GB) and was aimed at online promotion and sale of BISP beneficiaries products at international level. An official at BISP on Wednesday said in order to replicate successful model of E-Commerce of China, Cheezmall utilizes its expertise for training and delivering benefits of E-Commerce to poor component of society in Pakistan. The official said BISP is a social safety net that not only lends a hand in poverty management but endeavors to harness entrepreneurial potential of its beneficiaries by marketing the products of beneficiaries so that they may graduate out of poverty. This was a historic beginning which would change lives of the poorest women of Pakistan.

The official said Cheezmall started its operation in Pakistan last year and within couple of months it has become one of prominent Online Shopping website in Pakistan by holding some historical landmarks like successful flash sales, rush hour and today's shocker concepts.

Meanwhile, at an exhibition a large variety of products of BISP beneficiaries were showcased and were purchased by Cheezmall immediately and visitors and on spot payments were also made to beneficiaries. Approximately half a million rupees products were purchased by Cheezmall alone from approximately 15 stalls which would further market products bought on their website to ensure international and national sales. The visitors took great interest in the wide range of exhibited products that included caps, shoulder bags, wall hangings, wallets, key chain, door bells, pouches, cushion covers, wooden products, carpets, jewelry items, gems, shawls, local dresses and shoes. The market access to handicrafts of marginalized segments would contribute in their financial empowerment, the official said.
