Growers Of Date Palms Of North Waziristan Visit DPRI- SALU

KHAIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Jul, 2017 ) : The Growers of Date Palm of North Waziristan paid a research visit of Date Palm Research Institute of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur on Friday.
They also visited the orchards of Date Palm of University, said a statement. Earlier, an awareness seminar was also held which was chaired by Dean, Faculty of Natural Science Prof. Dr. Badaruddin Memon.
Prof. Dr. Badaruddin Memon addressing the seminar said that the date palm is a major crop of Sindh. It is the source of food and also source of earning of foreign exchequer. He said that more than 5000 types of date palm are available in the world.
Dr. Memon said more than 400 types of date palm are being cultivated in Pakistan. Director, Date Palm Research Institute (DPRI) Prof. Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Markhand, said that the date palm is an important crop of country.
It is the need of the hour that the awareness should be provided to the growers about the better cultivation of dates.
He said the DPRI has introduced dates of Saudi like Ajwa, Safawi, Ruthana and others and also dates of Balochistan.
He said DPRI is providing awareness regarding the increasing of production of dates to the growers through tissue culture. On the occasion, growers Moulana Sadaruddin Phulpoto, Muhammad Ismaeel from North Waziristan, Senior Officer Dates Dera Ismail Khan, Dr.
Abdul Qayyum, Coordinator Sarhad Rural Support Program Amjad Ali, addressing the seminar said that the government and private sector should take collaborative initiatives for better cultivation of dates in the country.
They said the growers have learned a lot from the DPRI. Prof. Dr. Abdul Majeed Chandio, Prof. Dr. Noor Muhammad Bhatti, Prof. Dr. Nisar Ahmed Kanhar, Dr. Maseehullah Jatoi, Tahira Jatt, Waseem Shams Malik, Najam Hussain Solangi, Haji Asghar Markhand, Muzaffar Hussain Channa, Riaz Ali Mirani, Muhammad Hashim and others attended the seminar.
