Govt To Ensure Better Status Of Minorities: Minister

ISLAMABAD, Jan 5 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 05th Jan, 2017 ) : Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Kamran Michael Thursday said Pakistan had always taken serious measures to ensure better status of minorities without any prejudice.
Talking to the British Parliament's delegation led by Minister for Asia and Pacific, Alok Sharma who called him on here, he assured all out efforts to ensure the protection of Human Rights in the country, adding they were fully committed to implement the United Nations Conventions in Pakistan.
The minister said, "Our constitution strictly and clearly addresses the rights of minorities and awards them their due rights to ensure their freedom, basic rights and security." On this occasion, Director General Human Rights Hassan Mangi briefed the delegation regarding minorities' status and implementation of Human Rights conventions in Pakistan.
The delegation was also briefed about prevailing Human Rights situation in the country including implementations of laws, policy and measures. Kamran Michael said status had not only enhanced business and trade relations activities but also it was a productive tool to bring positive change in Pakistan.
"Constitution of Pakistan grantees the human rights protection and we at Human Rights ministry ensures its implementations," he added. He said positive and prompt steps had been taken through comprehensive strategy to ensure the protection of human rights including the rights of women, children and minorities.
It was further told that steps were also being taken including Hindu Marriage Act, 2016, Christian Marriage and Divorce (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Sindh Hindu Marriage Acts, 2016, Khyber Pakhunkhawa (KPK) Protection of Communal Properties of Minority Community Act, 2014.
Members of the delegation appreciated endeavors of incumbent government especially the Human Rights ministry for the protection and promotion of Human Rights and assured their full support for promotion of HR situation in Pakistan. Besides, Additional Secretary In-charge Rabiya Javeri Agha and others officials of the Ministry also attended the meeting.
