ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Aug, 2017 ) : The pro-India National Conference President, Farooq Abdullah has said that all political parties should get united for protection of Article 35A, cautioning that it will be devastating for the territory if the constitutional provision is scrapped.
Addressing party workers from Kulgam, Beerwah and Dooru at his residence in Srinagar, he said, "The scrapping of Article 35A will lead to a storm which will create devastation with each passing day," KMS reported.
The time demands that people of Kashmir along with the pro- India parties should set aside their differences and get united to defend Article 35A, he said. Farooq Abdullah said that the removal of the Article would pave the way for outsiders and non-state subjects to apply for jobs, buy land and participate in elections in occupied Kashmir that would lead to loss of identity and special status of Kashmiris.
Article 35A is more advantageous to people of Ladakh and Jammu than Kashmiris, he added. Meanwhile, a team of civil society members comprising advocate G N Shaheen, Awami National Conference President, Muzaffar Shah, and President of Kashmir Sikh Coordination Committee, Jagmohan Singh Raina called on Farooq Abdullah at his Gupkar residence and sought his help in building a broader political consensus on protection of Article 35A.
Farooq Abdullah told the civil society members that protecting the Article has become an issue of identity for the people of Kashmir as granting property rights to non-state subjects would change the demography of the territory and the new law would be used to convert majority into minority.
