CPJ demands revoking of ban on social media in IOK

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Apr, 2017 ) : The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), an independent watchdog body, has demanded of Indian authorities to immediately revoke a one-month ban on access to social media services in occupied Kashmir.

The occupation authorities have directed all internet service providers to block users' access to 22 platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, WhatsApp, and YouTube in occupied Kashmir, KMS reported.

"The sweeping censorship of social media under the pretext of `maintaining peace and order' will bring neither peace nor order," media reports quoting Steven Butler, Asia Programme coordinator at CPJ, said. "Such broad censorship clearly violates the democratic ideals and human rights India purports to uphold," he said.
