ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 07th Dec, 2017 ) :Citizens on Thursday complained that there was acute shortage of hepatitis medicines at Federal capital's major hospital, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) that multiplied the sufferings of patients.
According to them, relevant medicines that were prescribed for treatment of hepatitis B and C were unavailable at PIMS for several months and indoor and outdoor patients were facing hardships in getting these medicines from the hospital.
A patient at PIMS Asmat Ishaq said that due to unavailability of hepatitis medicines, several patients were going to unrecoverable condition, as hepatitis patients need regular medication and in case of any gap there were chances of complications in the disease.
I remained hospitalized at PIMS for four months for treatment of this disease and at the time of discharge on the basis of medical tests, doctors advised me to get medicine of hepatitis from the hospital.
She added unfortunately when I reached hospital's pharmacy I was asked to come after one week to get this medicine as there was shortage of this medicine; however when I visited again the staff at pharmacy refused to give me those medicines by saying medicines were not available.
Asmat said, I could not buy these expensive medicines from private medical store. My bad luck that after spending four months and making several visits to hospital I could not get hepatitis medicines from PIMS.
She added there were several other patients like me who were facing same condition. She appealed the authorities concerned to take notice of this matter and direct the hospital administration to arrange the hepatitis medicines for deserving patients to prevent them from falling in miserable health conditions.
Another patient Salim Mamtaz said, my health condition was getting worst as doctors had advised me to take hepatitis medicines regularly but due to its unavailability at PIMS, I was not taking medicines since long.
He requested the hospital management to arrange required medicines, keeping in view the poor health condition of those patients who were facing hardships in getting medicines from PIMS for treatment of fatal hepatitis disease.
When contacted an official of the hospital said that sufficient medicines were available at the hospital and the management was providing all necessary medicines to indoor patients. He said that the hospital will resolve the matter if any one contacts to the management.
