ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Feb, 2018 ) :A two-day training workshop for parliamentarians on "counter-terrorism: strategic communications and media management" organised by Pakistan Peace Collective (PPC) concluded here Tuesday.
Speaking at the concluding session former chief minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Maalick said all segments of the society would have to join hands to root out the scourge of terrorism from the country.
He said elimination of terrorism would bring political and economic stability in the country. There was a complete consensus among the political parties to eliminate the terrorism and change the extremist mindset from the country, he added.
Other participants of the workshop said such workshops were very fruitful and all members of the parliament and provincial assemblies should be given similar training. Member Balochistan Assembly Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal said unfortunately Pakistan was run without the Constitution for about 26 years which had its negative impact on national unity.
He said disputes between the units of federation were a matter of routine and the Constitution provided solution to such issues.
Member Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly Rizwan Ali said political parties did have differences but national integrity and solidarity should not be compromised at any cost.
He suggested that capacity-building of all members of the assemblies should be done by Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS). Chief Executive Officer of PPC Shabir Anwar said they issued invitations to members of different assemblies but some of them did not come to attend the workshop.
He expressed the hope that those who had attended this workshop would convince other members to attend such training workshops. Executive Director of PIPS Zafrullah Khan said PIPS had very busy schedule of events and trainings throughout the year.
Pluralistic societies in the world were outcome of political decision making process, he added. He said there was no issue in the country bigger than the acumen of the political leadership of the country.
