Air Quality Monitoring System (AQMS) working round the clock to monitor air quality

Air Quality Monitoring System (AQMS) is working round the clock for monitoring the quality of air regularly at the federal and provincial levels.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Mar, 2018 ) :Air Quality Monitoring System (AQMS) is working round the clock for monitoring the quality of air regularly at the Federal and provincial levels.

An official of the ministry of Climate Change said presently 7 fixed and 3 Mobile Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations are working under "Environmental Monitoring System (EMS)"project in cooperation with the government of Japan.

Under the project, one fixed station each was established in Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta, two each in Lahore and Karachi, he added. In addition, the official said that 3 mobile stations, one each in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi were also established.

He said, "All these stations are equipped with state of the art technology to monitor ambient air round the clock." To a question he said that 12 steel mills established in federal capital sector of I-9 and I-10 are involved in causing pollution.

Nine steel mills have installed on-line dust monitoring system, which is under monitoring by Pak-EPA and their efficiency is being regularly checked. He said that major factor of vehicular emission is old diesel truck and buses.

Diesel vehicles due to overloading, faulty injection nozzles and weak engine emit excessive graphite carbon, he added. He said during previous campaigns, Pak-EPA in collaboration with Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has checked over 40,000 public and private vehicles for exhaust emissions in Islamabad.

With a view to sensitize the masses on the issue of vehicular pollution, a mass awareness campaign is being prepared consisting of 10 seconds and 20 seconds media messages that will be disseminated through electronic media.
