1500 Dengue Staff Perform Duties During Eid Holidays

RAWALPINDI, Sept 5 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 05th Sep, 2017 ) : Around 1500 dengue staffers carried out surveillance and preventive measures to avoid possible outbreak during Eid holidays. Talking to APP, District Health Officer Dr Abdul Jabbar said almost all dengue-related staff of district health authority was on duty during Eid holidays and carried out surveillance activities not only in city areas but also in areas falling under jurisdiction of cantonment boards.
On the first day of Eid, selected teams of health department worked in the field as dengue-related staff belonging to other Tehsils of Rawalpindi district were allowed to avail holiday only on the first day of Eid ul Adha.
Dr Jabbar said six confirmed cases of dengue fever from the city areas had been reported this year, of which three were admitted in Holy Family Hospital where their condition was stable.
The DHO urged all the departments to remain fully alert as September was crucial for dengue spread.
Dr Jabbar said in wake of dengue outbreak in Peshawar, the health department had declared the Pashto speaking localities as high risk areas vulnerable for spread of dengue. He said as large number of people daily came from Peshawar, the Pashto speaking localities of Pirwadhai, Fauji Colony, Dhoke Hassu, Westridge and Kohinoor Mills areas had been declared high risk areas.
He called upon the residents to keep an eye on junkyards, schools and under construction buildings which lead to spread of dengue larvae and leave no place wet or with stagnant water.
