As many as 500,000 students were getting education in 12304 community schools established in the less developed areas of the country under Basic Education Community Schools (BECS)

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Sep, 2017 ) : As many as 500,000 students were getting education in 12304 community schools established in the less developed areas of the country under Basic Education Community Schools (BECS).

Of the total enrollment 65 per cent students are female students while 85 per cent teachers are also female, Director General, BECS, Muhammad Abbas Khan said on Tuesday. Talking to mediapersons here, he said that aim of these schools was to save Pakistani youth falling in the hands of terrorists by providing education to each and every child of the country.

A PC-1 for two years of Rs. 3 billion has been approved by the Federal government which would be spend for the salaries of teachers, and books for students. He said the chance of teachers absentee was less in these schools as the most of institutions were being run in houses.

BECS, he said was providing easy approach to the students especially the females living in far flung areas of the country.

These schools were established in far flung areas with the cooperation of the communities.

The community provides rooms and teachers and BECS registered the schools and provide them a model of education, he added. He said the community schools system was providing free education from Nursery to class five and now its students had been employed in the major institutions of country.

The students of these community schools gained top three positions in North Waziristan and two from Gilgit-Baltistan, DG added. Despite lack of basic facilities including clean drinking water, toilets, buildings, students uniforms etc BECS had provided education to as many as 0.5 million students, DG said.

"We want to improve our community school system like developed countries" he vowed.
