Park In Front Of Dar's Residence To Be Restored, SC Assured

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Mar, 2018 ) :Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Zahid Akhtar Zaman Thursday assured the Supreme Court that the park, in front of former finance minister Ishaq Dar residence in Gulberg, Lahore, would be restored in its original position.

He also assured the court that the restoration would not be made at the state expenditure. The LDA DG made the assurance before the bench comprising Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan which heard a suo motu notice over using park area for construction of road/parking space in front of the former minister's house in Gulberg, at Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

In response to a court query, the LDA Director General admitted that on behalf of community, Ishaq Dar asked him to resolve the parking issue around park in front of his house besides repair of a two-kilometre road leading to the park.

At this, the Chief Justice asked how a playground area could be used for developing a parking space. In response to an unconditional apology by the DG, the Chief Justice observed that he (DG) would be punished for that.

The LDA Director General conceded that the step was not taken in accordance with law and undertook to restore park land. To which, the bench issued notice to Ishaq Dar for April 7 and also ordered for publishing the same in a newspaper. APP/syh/zqr/asm
