Four Profiteers Arrested, Rs.570,000 Fine Imposed On 503 Others

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th May, 2018 ) :Karachi wide campaign against profiteers and hoarders resulted in necessary legal action against 503 retailers, including arrest of four on Sunday.
The campaign ordered by Commissioner, Ejaz Ahmad Khan with active involvement of deputy commissioners pertaining to different districts of the metropolis, since the beginning of Ramadan is focused on fruit sellers, green grocers, meat sellers, grocers and other edible goods.
On the fourth day of the holy month fine to the tune of Rs.570,000 was imposed on retailers found violating the officially approved price list. Assistant Commissioner of North Nazimabad arrested four shopkeepers running provision stores in different parts of the thickly populated area for repeated violation of the government order and fleecing people under one or the other pretext.
Karachi Commissioner who has also set up a complaint centre at his office attached with hotline number 1299 has urged the citizens to immediately report to the centre if are forced to pay more than approved cost of edibles falling in varied categories.
Ejaz Ahmad Khan has assured that immediate action will be taken against the profiteers and also those found to be selling sub standards goods. Deputy Commissioners were also directed to keep strict vigil and ensure that each and every relevant retailer/shop keeper prominently displays the official list with equal care that no shortage of any food item is registered in any part of the metropolis.
