LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 02nd Nov, 2017 ) :Federal Minsiter for Postal Services Maulana Syed Ameer Zaman Bukhari has said the ministry of postal services will issue commemorative postage stamps in memory of martyrs who had laid their lives in the war against terror.
Addressing a solemn unveiling ceremony to issue commemorative postage stamps for victorious champion trophy cricket team at the PCB Media Centre Qaddafi Stadium here on Thursday, he said that martyrs in the war against terror were our heroes, adding that his ministry had issued commemorative postage stamps of many national heroes including Maulana Mufti Mehmood.
The federal minister said the country had faced the blight of terrorism over the past years and defeated it through the coordinated efforts of the armed forces, government and popular support of the masses.
He said Pakistan cricket team's victory in the 2017 ICC Champion Trophy was remarkable as the cricketers had made the country proud and projected the soft image of the country across the world, adding that the victory had brought smiles on the faces of the people.
Maulana Ameer Zaman said the Pakistan Post had decided to hold this ceremony in order to immortalize the services of the national cricketers through the commemorative postage stamps and a souvenir sheet, adding that it was only the second occasion when commemorative tickets were issued after the 1992 World Cup victory in Australia.
He congratulated the PCB on this epoch-making achievement and thanked the Prime Minsiter Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for his personal interest in the issuance of commemorative tickets.
He expressed the hope that Pakistan cricket would achieve more victories in the coming days.
Speaking on the occasion, DG Pakistan Post Rubina Tayyab eulogized the achievements of Pakistan Cricket team and termed it a great success. She said it was second occasion when postage stamps had been issued to commemorate the ICC Champions Trophy victory after the World Cup 1992 success.
She said Pakistan Post was proud of the national cricket contingent and has issued commemorative postage stamps to acknowledge the great feat as per the instructions of the Prime Minsiter Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
Chairman PCB Najam Sethi said Pakistan cricket team was united under the leadership of Sarfraz Ahmed, adding that young cricket contingent was tipped to win more laurels for the country. He praised Cricket Head Coach Mickey Arthur and his team for playing their role in the victory in the Champions Trophy 2017.
Pakistan Cricket team captain Sarfraz Ahmed thanked the Pakistan Post for issuing the commemorative postage stamps of the team and its achievements. The ceremony was also attended by cricketers Babur Azam, Hassan Ali, Rumman Raees, Haris Sohail, Shahdab Khan, Head Coach Mickey Arthur and other PCB officials.
Later, Federal Minister Maulana Syd Ameer Zaman and DG Rubina Tayyab gave away commemorative photos and Collector's Book to the Chairman PCB, national cricketers and PCB officials including Head PCB Archives Saleem Ghazanvi.
