PCS Announces To Create Awareness In The Country About Chronic Obstruction Pulmonary Disease

Pakistan Chest Society (PCS) has announced to create awareness about chronic Obstruction Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in the country to divert attention of people to this disease because the number of patients is increased manifold
PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Nov, 2017 ) :Pakistan Chest Society (PCS) has announced to create awareness about chronic Obstruction Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in the country to divert attention of people to this disease because the number of patients is increased manifold.
The awareness campaign is carried out for a positive message emphasizing the meaningful action which people can take to improve their respiratory health at any stage before or after the diagnose of COPD, said Professor Dr.
Arshad Javed, President PCS. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday at Peshawar Press Club, Dr. Arshad Javed who is also dean of Khyber Medical University, a lot of people have lost their live due to COPD due to lack of knowledge of this preventable disease.
COPD is highly preventable disease but a lot of people don�t know about the disease which affect their health. Reducing the burden of COPD worldwide depends on indentifying a greater proportion of the people who have developed the disease and getting them treatment and other help for having a normal life.
COPD is a common lung disease that blocks the air passages making breathing difficult, explains Dr.
Arshad Javed. It is mainly caused by smoking on exposure to smoke, fumes and other air pollutants including smog.
Worldwide one in ten adults over the age of 40 years is suffering from COPD, he warns. More than 90 percent of COPD occurs in low and middle income countries where Primary cause of disease is tobacco smoke.
The disease can affects men and women equally due to increase in tobacco use among women in high income countries. Dr. Arshad said COPD is a lung ailment that is characterized by a persistent blockage of air flow from the lungs.
It is an under diagnosed life threatening lung disease and its most common symptoms are breathlessness, increased effort needed to breath, excessive mucus, chronic cough and fatigue. President PCS also talked about prevailing wave of smog in the country which is also causing respiratory problems.
He said PCS will also arrange a walk on Wednesday at Lady Reading Hospital for awareness of people about the disease and its cure. He also urged the media persons to highlight reasons behind COPD and also preventive measures so that people could be protected from the disease.
