Around 79 Afghan children with congenital heart disease will get free surgery in China this year

BEIJING, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th May, 2018 ) :Around 79 Afghan children with congenital heart disease will get free surgery in China this year. Jawad, a five-year-old from Afghanistan who was suffering from congenital heart disease, has been treated at a hospital in Xinjiang under a program by Chinese Red Cross Foundation, according to official sources here on Thursday.

The program is to help children who suffer from congenital heart disease among countries along the Belt and Road (BRI). Jawad is one of 25 who came to China last month. His father who came with Jawad to Xinjiang told media, "We found Jawad had a heart problem when he was only 4 months old." Zhang Yujie, Jawad's nurse has spent time with the little boy after his surgery said, Jawad's condition was one of the more serious among the 25 kids.

All the 25 children are now back in Afghanistan. Another 54 kids who suffer from congenital heart disease are expected to come to China later.
