Record funds of Rs. 107 billion allocated for HEC, Senate body told

Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training, Engr. Muhammad Baliq-ur-Rehman said Monday that the incumbent government had allocated record funds for education and was particularly focusing on Higher Education Commission (HEC) as its budget had witnessed a record increase upto Rs107 billion.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Feb, 2018 ) :Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training, Engr. Muhammad Baliq-ur-Rehman said Monday that the incumbent government had allocated record funds for education and was particularly focusing on Higher Education Commission (HEC) as its budget had witnessed a record increase upto Rs107 billion.

Giving a briefing to Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training, the minister informed that the budget for HEC had been increased from Rs. 14 billion in 2012 to the current the record level during the current fiscal year.

The committee which met here under the chairpersonship of Senator Nuzat Sadiq also passed two bills including 'National Civic Education Commission Bill 2018 moved by Senator Sehar Kamran and the 'the National Skills University Islamabad' bill which was moved by Minister Muhammad Baliq-ur-Rehman.

The minister informed the body members that civic education was necessary for improving the health condition of the people, adding that syllabus was being prepared for class one to five which would be promulgated soon.

Discussing the second second bill, upgradation of National Institute of Science and Technical Education (NISRE) to National Skill University, the parliamentarians said that it would be the first-ever skill development varsity of the country.

"It would help not only in creating new jobs in the country but would also open new avenues for the youth abroad", they opined. Senator Sehar Kamran remarked that certificate of technical education would be beneficial for students to establish their own business or service providing company, adding that certified skilled trained manpower had high demand internationally but Pakistani citizens lost this important slot just because of lack of this facility in our country.

Replying a query, Minister for education briefed that the National Skill University would cover all the technical courses from technology to health related disciplines. The committee members also felicitated Chairman Pakistan Tehreek a Insaf Imran Khan on his third marriage.

Among others, the committee was attended by Senator Sehar Kamran, Senator Gul Bushra, Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training, Chairperson National Commission for Human Development, NCHD, Rozina Alam officials of Ministry of federal education, ministry of law and Justice and others.
