High Commissioner of Kenya Prof Julius Kibet Bitok desired collaboration between University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and Kenyan universities and research organisations in livestock and related sectors
LAHORE(Pakistan Point News - 21st Feb, 2018 ) : High Commissioner of Kenya Prof Julius Kibet Bitok desired collaboration between University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and Kenyan universities and research organisations in livestock and related sectors. The Kenyan High Commissioner led a delegation comprising Commercial Counselor Kenya Embassy Islamabad Mr Filimona Wambulwa, Manager Administration Kenyan Consulate Lahore Mr Lt Col (R) Ameer Abdullah and Executive Office Manager Kenyan Consulate Lahore Mr Raees Alam to UVAS’s Ravi Campus Pattoki and held a detailed meeting with Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and discussed possibilities of collaboration with UVAS.
They identified the areas of collaboration including research especially in livestock, exchange of students and faculty for studies, training and joint research. Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor briefed the Kenyan delegation on the UVAS academic, research, extension & dairy advisory services, clinical & disease diagnostic facilities, development projects, vaccine production, various training programmes, national and international linkages, etc.
He informed the delegation about the UVAS ranking among the top universities in Times Higher Education and QS World Top University Rankings. He said that the university is helping the industry in food and feed analysis, quality control, disease diagnostics and through advisory services. Later the Kenyan delegations visited various departments of Ravi Campus Pattoki including Central Laboratory Complex (CLC), Milk Plant, Pet Breeding & Training Center, Ostrich and Indigenous Poultry Farm, Dairy Animal Training & Research Centre, Sheep & Goat Research Centre, Poultry Broiler Farm, clinics and Buffalo Research Institute.
The Kenyan High Commissioner appreciated the UVAS state-of-the-art disease diagnostic facilities/laboratories, academic & research facilities, dairy training and clinical services for the benefit of poor farming community and industry. He said that Pakistan and Kenya have close relations and Kenya wants to further promote these ties in all sectors, especially livestock, research and education. He said that he wants to see Kenya and Pakistan exchange faculty and students for studies, training and research and get benefit from each other’s expertise.
The Vice-Chancellor said that UVAS will welcome Kenyan students for studies, training and research. He said that university has already collaboration with another African country, Gambia, and a student from Gambia is pursuing his PhD degree at Ravi Campus. The Kenyan High Commissioner also planted a sapling in front of CLC at A-Block Ravi Campus.
