Girls Hostel For Over 900 Students Made Functional At Main Fatima Jinnah Women University Campus: FJWU VC

A girls hostel to provide accommodation facility to over 900 students constructed in Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) main campus has been made functional, Vice Chancellor, FJWU, Prof Dr Samina Amin Qadir said
RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Feb, 2018 ) :A girls hostel to provide accommodation facility to over 900 students constructed in Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) main campus has been made functional, Vice Chancellor, FJWU, Prof Dr Samina Amin Qadir said.
Talking to APP she informed that this year, the university will complete its 20 successful years adding, last year, the facilities and infrastructure had further been expanded along with addition of two new undergraduate programs in Anthropology and Sociology and M Phil programmes in Computer Science, Islamic Studies and Mathematics.
Highlighting the achievements of faculty members she informed two faculty members of the university recently completed their Post-Doctorate programmes from Harvard University, USA and Queen Mary College, University of London, UK.
Five faculty members have joined back after completing their PhD from different parts of the world, she said. To a question she said, the US sponsored building of Education Department has become functional.
She further informed that the construction of Campus-II at Chakri Road, Rawalpindi along with residential facility for the students is the next ongoing project. She informed that the construction of Academic Block is being planned at the city campus and the project would cover the area of 99,574sft.
with an estimated cost of Rs566.584 million. The block will further accommodate eight new market oriented academic disciplines, she added. This year 1,409 students including two PhD, 124 MPhil, 456 Masters and 827 Bachelors were awarded degrees at 17th Convocation held recently.
Over 60 gold and silver medals were also awarded to the students showed distinction in their respective programmes, she added. She further said the university has academic links with various world renowned international universities and industrial organizations.
The FJWU has filed two patents, established collaborative linkages with 32 national and 41 international partners, while 28 research projects are currently in operational stage. The university is publishing four research journals adding to the academic strength of the university.
The VC said the university last year organized first international multidisciplinary graduate conference on "Emerging Scholars: Illuminating Graduate Research Work" and International Conference on "Building Bridges in Initial Teacher Education: Theory and Practice; Curriculum and Assessment; Schools and Universities Students Achievements".
Another, three-day second International Conference on Governance and Public Policy, jointly organized by FJWU and HEC, Pakistan has been kicked off on February 16. The participants from 10 countries including USA, Canada, UK, France, Netherland, Sweden, Malaysia, Philippines, Morocco, India and Bangladesh are taking part in the conference arranged to address the issues pertaining to public policy, management and governance in the country and to suggest recommendations for their solution.
She said over 100 national and international delegates are presenting their papers and research work in the conference. She told that a FJWU business Administration student has won Young Researcher Award in third Asia International Conference organized at University Teknologi Malaysia.
Two students from Software Engineering Department secured first position and cash prize of Rs100,000 while two other students from Environmental Sciences Department presented their project titled "Green Architecture and smart energy solution/bio fuel" in an International Conference in Nepal.
One student from Bachelors of Environmental Sciences got position in top five from all the regional countries, she said adding that these achievements are the result of interactive academic teaching which is a key element of education in FJWU.
The university believes that personality grooming is possible by providing sports opportunities for its students she said and informed that construction work of First Women Squash Courts facility has been started in the city campus.
The university organized "All Pakistan Intervarsity Women Volley Ball Championship 2016-2017." The VC said, the FJWU Shotokan Karate Team has won three Bronze medals in different weight categories in "Twin City Japan Karate Association Shotokan Cup 2017".
She said, "We encourage the students to use their acquired knowledge and strive for the welfare of society, for reducing disparity and to empower those who are disadvantaged."
