Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) won five national awards on promotion of 'Seerat-un-Nabi' (PBUH) through its research-based academic work

ISLAMABAD,(Pakistan Point News - 06th Dec, 2017 ):Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) won five national awards on promotion of 'Seerat-un-Nabi' (PBUH) through its research-based academic work. It was for first time that the AIOU was declared the best one among the higher educational institutions on writing research journal and articles by the Ministry of Religious Affairs with five awards, says a press release issued here on Wednesday. The awards were handed over at the Seerat Conference held in Islamabad on the occasion of Eid-Milad-Un-Nabi (PBUH).

AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui, while speaking in this regard stated that it was great pride for the university to have a leading position in projecting the teachings of Islam, in context of Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH). The�university had distinction and had published special research journal on 'Seerat studies'. The award was received by its editor Prof Dr Moin-ud-din Hashmi. Other four awards were given on writing best articles on the topic leading principles of national leadership in an Islamic State in light of teachings of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).

The writers of these articles included Dr Ahmed Raza, Dr Ayesa Snobar and Nazia Gohar of Department of Islamic Thoughts. According to the Dean, university's department of Islamic Studies Prof Dr Shah Mohyuddin Hashmi, on the initiative of the Vice Chancellor, the university arranged two international conferences on "Seerat" studies in a period of one year. Third such event is scheduled to take place on December 14. In order to push forward, the efforts of projecting the life and messages of Holy Prophet (PBUH) through academic pursuits, the university has decided to launch a BS-level programme on Islamic Studies with specialization on "seerat" studies from next year.

The journal on "seerat" is of international standard and its writers are some world-known Muslim scholars, including from Saudi Arabia, India and Aljazair. It contained eight research-based articles that deliberate upon the topics of social welfare society and social justice as well as a guideline for addressing the present days socio-economic problems. According to the Department, the document is highly valuable to understand the message and teaching of Holy Prophet (PBUH) for seeking solution to the present days problems that affects the life common man.

It serves as precious document for researchers and scholars. While launching the journal, Dr Shahid Siddiqui has stated that Quran and Seerat-un-Nabi are complete code of life to have a successful life here and hereafter. He was of the view that merely economic development would not be enough for bringing real change in the life of the people. Social aspect, in term of values, attitude and thinking in light of Islamic teaching is also important for achieving the desired results.
