SCBAP Secretary Suspended

SCBAP secretary suspended

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2017 ) : Executive Committee Members of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) on Friday suspended the body's Secretary General Aftab Bajwa over acting beyond his mandate and alleged misconduct.

"SCBAP Secretary Aftab Bajwa has indulged into activities unbecoming of a learned office-bearer of this apex association. He has not only acted beyond his mandate but also committed gross misconduct by misbehaving with learned members," says a press release issued here.

The executive committee made the decision with a majority of 12 votes against 9 votes in a meeting held at the SCBAP Registry office here. The members who supported the decision include Vice President Punjab Bakhtiar Ali Sial, Vice President Sindh Ghulam Shabbir Shar, Vice President Balochistan Waseem Jadoon, Finance Secretary Arshad Z Kiyani, Member Punjab Badar Munir Malik, Member Punjab Samina Rana, Member Punjab Ahmad Khan Gondal, Member Balochistan M Ibrahim Lehri, Member Balochistan Adnan Ejaz , Member Sindh Sh Javaid Meer, Member KPK M Nawaz Sawati, Member KPK M Yousaf Mughal.

Invoking Rule 37 and Rule 10 of SCBAP rules, the members suspended Aftab Bajwa from performing functions as secretary SCBAP and appointed Badar Munir in his place. The committee also resolved not to participate in a lawyers convention being hosted by the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Saturday (MAY 20) with regards to the Panama papers case.

"The misconceived announcement that SCBAP is a co-host of this convention is also a misstatement as the committee, in its 9th meeting on May 2 in Islamabad, had not decided in this regard," press release added.

"The committee also resolved that matter be immediately reported to Pakistan Bar Council, the regulating body, for appropriate orders/action," it added. It may be mentioned that the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), the top regulatory body of the lawyers, last week held a representative convention in Islamabad, which rejected the demand of some lawyers' bodies, including LHCBA, to force the prime minister to step down after Supreme Court's judgment in Panama Leaks case.
