Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Ahmed Sheikh on Thursday informed the Senate that flight operations of PIA to Kuwait and Oman were suspended due to continuous losses on these routes
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Feb, 2018 ) :Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Ahmed Sheikh on Thursday informed the Senate that flight operations of PIA to Kuwait and Oman were suspended due to continuous losses on these routes.
Replying to a calling attention notice raised by Sherry Rehman regarding suspension of flight operations on the said routes, the minister said PIA has its own 13 aircrafts while remaining 24 aircrafts were acquired on dry leased.
He conceded that situation has been gradually deteriorated resulting closures of various routes. He said PIA suffered loss of Rs 44 million in 2013, Rs 31 million in 2014 and Rs 37 million in 2015 on the said routes.
He said new Chief Executive Officer of PIA has been appointed about five months ago and was asked to present a comprehensive revival plan before the Cabinet. He also suggested to set up a special committee of the house to look into the affairs of PIA.
