FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Nov, 2017 ) :A delegation of trade officers of Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development (PITAD) visited here on Wednesday and held meeting with members of Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA).

PITAD director Zahoor Elahi led the delegation and addressed the meeting. He said that there was a dire need to exchange trade delegations with different institutes as well as foreign countries to enhance bilateral trade in addition to further strengthen national economy.

He lauded the role and contribution of PHMA in national export and said that our exportable items could defeat regional rivals in the international markets, if our exporters and manufacturers pay some attention on improving quality of items.

Earlier, Chairman PHMA North Zone Mian Naeem Ahmad presented a welcome address and said that Pakistani economy was facing toughest situation at this time as our exporters are not able to achieve export targets due to non-provision of special incentive and conducive atmosphere for enhancing national exports.

He said that hosiery sector was playing a pivotal role in stabilizing the national economy but now this sector was also facing severe crisis due to which our industrial production reduced in addition to witness decline in the exports for the last few months.

Introducing PHMA, Mian Naeem Ahmad said that PHMA was the only representative of garments units across the country. Its head office is in Karachi along with its regional offices in Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Multan.

He said the PHMA had more than 1600 members and this sector directly or indirectly was providing job opportunities to about 500,000 families in the country. He said the PHMA had contributed 27 percent in national kitty by earning foreign exchange of 3.2 billion Dollars through its exportable goods and its share in total national export was 14 percent.
