'Modern Agricultural Trends Imperative To Increase Productivity'

It is a dire need of hour to adopt modern agricultural trends and practices in order to increase productivity from shrinking agricultural land keeping in view of ever-increasing population.

This was stated by University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar at wheat harvesting ceremony arranged by Directorate of Farms, UAF here Wednesday. He was flanked by Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr Riaz Ahmad, Director Farm Dr Farooq Ahmad, Dean Food Sciences Dr Masood Sadiq, Dr Muhammad Tahir and other notables.
He said that the country was blessed with four seasons, ecosystem and environment.
He added that the country was far-lagging behind from developed nations due to traditional way of farming. He said that at the inception of the country, our population was 35 million which had now crossed to 210 million people.
He showed his concern that with the passage of time, the agricultural land was diminishing and being converted for other usages. He added that we have to jack up agri productivity from the shrinking land to ensure the food security.
He lauded the steps being taken on the part of the government for promotion of the agricultural sector. He said that wheat is the largest crop in term of agricultural land whereas we are producing surplus wheat.
