Colombo, January (پاکستان پوائنٹ نیوز 21 كانون الثاني 2025ء) During the ceremony, Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Colombo, Khalid Al-Qahtani, expressed gratitude to the Saudi leadership for their unwavering support of Islamic initiatives, particularly in the service of the Quran. He highlighted the impressive participation of nearly 1,900 male and female contestants from across Sri Lanka, which showcased the event's significance and the commitment of Islamic organizations to engage with top Quran memorizers from various age groups.
Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka, Hiniduma Senevi, commended Saudi Arabia for long placing great importance on the Quran.
In a speech at the ceremony, Senevi praised the Kingdom's regular organization of competitions dedicated to Quran memorization both domestically and globally, offering prizes worth millions of Riyals. He added that these endeavours reflect the significance of these competitions in promoting Islamic culture among Muslims. The minister extended his appreciation to the Saudi leadership for their support of the competition.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Saud Al-Ghamdi, the ministry's undersecretary for Dawah and guidance, highlighted that this competition is part of the Kingdom's ongoing efforts to spread the message of the Noble Quran, promote values of moderation, and instil Islamic identity among Muslims worldwide.
The ceremony concluded with honouring 24 winners across four competition categories, receiving total prizes exceeding SAR200,000. Attendees also participated in commemorative photographs to mark the occasion. Several dignitaries attended the celebration, including members from the Parliament of Sri Lanka and ambassadors from Arab and Islamic countries.
