CJP questions special treatment given to Rao Anwar

Rejects application seeking his removal from ECL

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 10th January, 2019) The Supreme Court has dismissed the application filed by former SSP Malir Rao Anwar for removal of his name from Exit Control List.

A three member Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took up the application in Islamabad on Thursday.

The CJP dismissed Rao Anwar's application for removal of his name from ECL so that he could travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

The CJP andexpressed extreme displeasure on learning how the former Malir SSP has been facilitated over the past one year.

At the beginning of the hearing, the CJP questioned, “How was Rao Anwar released from jail?”

To this, the lawyer said he has not been released but is on bail.

The irked CJP then remarked, “Is Rao Anwar so important to the state that he is being given such special treatment?”

Rao Anwar’s lawyer said he wants to go abroad because of some family issues.

To this, the CJP said his family can come meet him here.

The CJP then said young Naqeebullah was murdered. Rao Anwar must want to transfer money abroad.

The father of Naqeebullah Mehsood present in the courtroom thanked the CJP for rejecting his application.

An Anti Terrorism court had granted bail to Anwar in the Naqeebullah murder case and had directed him to submit Rs1 million in bail bonds.

Anwar, along with 11 of his subordinates, is facing trial before the ATC for allegedly killing Mehsud, a shopkeeper and aspiring model from South Waziristan, and three others in a staged encounter on January 13, 2018 in Malir.
