Lack of resources hampering efforts to address issues: Mayor HMC

HYDERABAD, (Pakistan Point News - APP -29th Sep,2016) : Mayor of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) Syed Tayyab Hussain Thursday said shortage of financial resources were hampering the HMC's efforts to address health, cleanliness and development issues.

Addressing the business community at the secretariat of Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry (HCSTSI) here, the Mayor acknowledged that the HMC owned considerable assets but no significant financial resources.

"I have observed this during my first 26 to 27 days after becoming the mayor. We have assets but lack the financial means and also the authority," he observed. Hussain requested the trader community to cooperate with the HMC in keeping the city clean.

The mayor advised them to leave the garbage after closing their shops at a particular place so that the municipal staff could easily collect the material on a regular basis.

He said the sanitary staff collects the garbage in early morning but the shops are cleaned after they are opened around 11 am while the waste from the shops was thrown over the roads.

"This is the cause that the garbage remains dumped on the roads for all day long until the next morning when the sanitary staff comes to collect it," he noted. Earlier, Chairman Local Government Committee of the chamber Saleemuddin Qureshi apprised the mayor about the business community's problems and requested him to take early steps for addressing the issues.

The Deputy Mayor of HMC Suhail Mashhadi and the chamber's office bearers and members including Nadeem Ahmed Siddiqi, Shaukat Khayam, Arif Memon and others were also present on the occasion. APP/zmb/abd/ahn
