SC seeks report over purchase of Flue meters for government

ISLAMABAD, Mar 7 (Pakistan Point News - APP - 07th Mar, 2017 ) : The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought report regarding purchase of flue meters and theft of blood bags from the blood banks in different government hospitals.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan heard the suo moto notice case regarding purchase of oxygen cylinders for Poly Clinic Hospital Islamabad.

During the course of proceedings, the Additional Attorney General, Dr. Zaffar Altaf Administrator Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and others appeared before the court. The Additional Attorney General submitted report and informed the court that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had started investigation against corrupt hospital employees and most of accused were on bail.

He said that after 18th Constitutional Amendment all hospitals of the federal capital were performing their duties under Capital Administration and Development Division. The chief justice remarked that people donate blood for patients and it is height of coldness to sell donated blood by the hospital administration.

He observed that when the court asked about the maladministration in hospitals it was informed that all was well while ground realities were not so. Dr Altaf informed the court that due to Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) Rules hospitals were forced to buy sub- standard medicine.

The court sought report regarding theft of blood bags and purchase of flue meters and adjourned hearing of the case for two weeks.
