Trophy of 2nd U-23 Games unveiled amidst fun & joys

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jan, 2017 ) : The unveiling of the Trophy of 2nd Under-23 Games carrying a slogan of "Khalari Ho Tu Sabat Karoo" held at Sports Complex Dera Ismail Khan on Tuesday amidst joys and fun with thousands of spectators including school kids.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Revenue Ali Amin Ghadapur was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the trophy. Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan Dr. Nazir Warrich, District Sports Officer Anwar Kamal Burki, Vice Chancellor Gomal University, office-bearers from various association, spectators were also present.

Speaking on this occasion, Ali Amin Ghandapur said that preparation in this connection have already been completed and the Games will be organized in February this year wherein more than 7000 male and female athletes will participate in 13 (female) and 15 (male disciplines) at Inter-District level while at Regional level there will be 14 female and 20 males disciplines.

Similar unveiling ceremonies of the trophy would be organized in Bannu on Jan 19 and Kohat on Jan 24, he disclosed. The Games for men will include cricket, football, volleyball, hockey, squash, badminton, table tennis, boxing, athletics, gymnastic, judo, Karate and Taekwondo while women would compete in cricket, netball, hockey, basketball, squash, badminton, table tennis, athletic, judo, wushu and taekwondo.

The plan for successful arrangements of the games has already been completed. He said the winners team will be awarded Rs.

0.1 million while the individual gold medal winners will be a cash prizes of Rs.

50,000. The Games, he said, will be held first on Inter-District level wherein all 26 districts would participate while 14 female and 20 male games would be organized at Inter-Regional level wherein teams from seven regions comprising Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Kohat, Mardan, Malakand, Hazara and Peshawar would participate.

Before unveiling the trophy, it got whole-day round in different bazars of all across Dera Ismail Khan. Special "Tanga" rally was taken wherein hundreds and thousands of spectators turned up. The commissioner lauded the endeavours of the Sports Department for the promotion of games in the province in this critical phase of its history.

The aim of the ceremony was meant to create awareness among the Under-23 players, fans and spectators of various games to participate and watch the spectacular competitions, he said. He said that organizing such mega sports competitions to hunt talented players and bring them to the forth so that their abilities and potential could be explored and exploited.

Youth should be engaged in sports and other healthy activities to make them useful citizens for the society. He said the outstanding players would be given prizes and trophies at the end of the gala.

Earlier, the ceremony was started with the recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by national anthem. There were performances of the local artists as well on the tone of the drums (doll) and pipe (surna).
